hello!  we’re recently back from a most splendid trip to yosemite full of so much spectacular nature and cozy knitting, both of which i’d like to share in some photos below.  first, i wanted to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to read my last post and leave such thoughtful and thought provoking comments.  there are several avenues by which one can enjoy blogging and partaking in the blogs of others, but it’s so rewarding to take the time to write a time and brain intensive post and get feedback clearly demonstrating others are making the effort to engage.  you guys are wonderful, seriously.

the yosemite

a few weeks back, we took a family trip to yosemite national park, where some innocent tourist was forced to take roughly 500 photos similar to this for our potential holiday card.  this one is the winner.  also, we had an awesome time there, because it is one of the most beautiful and magical places on earth which even two toddlers and one puppy cannot sabotage.

my apologies as i’m back for just one more cop out post before i hope to return to cultivating this space a little more generously in the near future. i know i have missed so many comments and failed to respond in a timely manner–so embarrassing and i promise i will be a better blogger soon. just this saturday, i worked my last shift of my full time job that felt like it was not so slowly killing me. maybe my last shift ever as an adult acute care rn, who knows?! it was a wild, wild ride and i will definitely miss my wonderful coworkers, but it was 100% the right decision on both personal and professional levels, and a long and tenuous journey to even reach that decision. but that’s very much it’s own story not at all related to camping capes–we’ll see if it ever finds its way to this old blog.

just a week ago, i left beautiful squam lake after making it my home for five days.  i think this might be the first time i’m even mentioning here that i finally attended SAW, known in craft parlance simply as “squam,” after years of dreaming and scheming.  i learned of squam early in my knitting career, likely rooting around on other knitting blogs, and in the midst of that insanity (two infants, working 3-11p four nights a week and david in residency in our tiny apartment on the 15th floor in downtown chicago) it instantly became my quiet, happy place.  there were times i was so wholly overwhelmed and overstimulated, i locked myself in the bathroom with my knitting and pretended i was there for a few minutes while my two babies screamed and cried and reached their pudgy hands under the door, grasping (i think) at my soul.

we just got back from a lovely vacation to san diego, which was a nice opportunity to disconnect for an extended period.  david grew up there, so we had the pleasure of catching up with a lot of old friends and their little ones.  we just made it in a window of good health for all of us (i stopped barfing a day before we left home, reese started the morning we returned, nice!), and the kids are juuuuust getting old enough to travel more seamlessly.  it really was restorative (lots of car knitting!).  i don’t know about you other creative folk, but i really dislike stagnation, and i’m definitely feeling the urge to take a few steps back and redefine my creative goals for the coming months.  for creative people with extremely limited time, that task can be challenging and i’m not exactly sure when it might happen, but i’m acknowledging it.  changes coming, you heard it here first!

you guys.  it will be two weeks tomorrow that we left for our big adventure, which means it’s been already two weeks since i last popped in to say hello.  no art fair updates today since i just sat at my sewing machine for the first time yesterday and have done little but botch two plackets, but i thought i’d try something different and write a bit about our trip, which ended up being pretty craft driven.  we did lots of cool stuff, so if you’re headed to the southeastern us, perhaps this will serve as a good resource for you!
